Artist Statement
Creating art has been the one throughline of my life, something innate within me.
As a child, I was immersed in nature and viewed myself as part of the strange and magical world I saw around me. I was also quite intense and unselfconscious, especially in my creativity. My practice now is a way to reconnect with my childhood self, not just through the subject matter but through her way of seeing the world. I use various media, including fabric, ceramic, wood, and paint, allowing myself to be playful and intuitive as I create.
The action of painting my childhood self-portraits is gentle and intimate, while my sculptures - self portraits in their own right - are playful and ever-changing. Both method and material merge nature with self, creating magical and strange results.
