Woodwork
As a child I would whittle whenever I could, first with my dad’s leatherman and eventually my own knife, carving magic wands and small creatures out of driftwood and sticks found in campsites. I made my first spoon when I was 12, and for many years that was my only spoon. I stopped carving for the most part, and moved on to painting and pottery, until a few years ago when I visited a family friend on the Isles of Scilly. He reintroduced me to carving, suggesting I try a spoon. Since then, I have been making spoons whenever I can get my hands on any green wood (city living doesn’t lend itself to this). I often make them in phases, and they naturally form into families.
